Sungai Jaong

Sungai Jaong is a unique heritage site located within a dipterocarp and mangrove forest that is rich in biodiversity. It is best known for its ancient rock carvings and archaeological artefacts that date back to the 9th to 14th centuries, when the Santubong foothills were a busy hub of human activity and iron smelting industries.

Visitors can discover ancient stone carvings, including an anthropomorphic (human-like) figure carved on a boulder. These carvings and engravings, known as petroglyphs, are man-made markings on natural stone surfaces that tell stories of past spiritual and cultural traditions.

Sungai Jaong offers both natural beauty and a glimpse into the ancient heritage of Sarawak, making it a fascinating destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and curious explorers alike.
