Bongkissam Dan Bukit Maras

Bongkissam and Bukit Maras are important archaeological sites with many notable finds. These locations reveal Santubong's early days as an India-China trading port. The strategic trade route between India and China indirectly aided the spread of Hindu-Buddhism throughout the Malay Archipelago, especially in Borneo. Visitors can discover the evidence for this at Bongkissam and Bukit Maras.

At Bongkissam finds include a shrine which had a silver ritual deposit box containing 142 gold foil figures representing Hindu-Buddhist traditions. Inside the box were also semi-precious stones, beads and a small sculpture. At Bukit Maras, small and opaque beads were discovered. Tiny blue-green elephants made from glass were also found. These are unique finds from Bukit Maras.

Researchers have also discovered hundreds of ceramics from the Sung, Yuan, Tang and Qing Dynasties at the sites.
