Abstract:
MEDICINAL VALUE Smythies (1981) has a quite lengthy descriptionon this bird and under “Habits” notes the medicinal use made of it in Sabah as a cure-all especially for rheumatic complaints. A similar belief is found amongst both rural Malays and Chinese in Peninsular Malaysia and also in Indonesia. A description of how to make “Minyak Bubut” or “Minyak Bubok” as handed down orally from a kampong near Malacca is as follows (Mohd. Salleh-pers. comm., 1985).
