The Opening Ceremony of the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum
The Opening Ceremony of the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum was officiated by YAB Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg on 20 April 2026 at the historic site of Brooke Dockyard, Kuching.
YAB Premier Sarawak completed the symbolic opening ceremony and received a souvenir in the form of a replica of the HHY Zahora Ship as a memento.
Immediately afterwards, YAB Premier Sarawak visited the exhibition galleries that housed various industrial treasures, as well as took a closer look at the HHY Zahora Ship which is one of the main attractions in this museum.
Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum now serves as an important landmark in the history of Sarawak's technological and economic development. In addition to serving as an industrial heritage education center and cultural tourism destination, it also serves as a space to appreciate the contributions of local workers in the maritime and manufacturing sectors.
Since the museum opened from 21 April 2026 to 12 June 2026, it has received a very encouraging response with a record number of visitors now reaching 50,130 people.
A thousand thanks to the YAB Premier of Sarawak for the inauguration of the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum. A thousand thanks are also extended to all parties who were involved in helping to make this inauguration a success. The Sarawak Museum Department hopes that more visitors from home and abroad will visit this museum.
Also present were the Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and other guests of honour.
