Saturday, 6 December 2025: The Opening Ceremony of the Helios (The Sun) Temporary Exhibition was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak.
This exhibition provides visitors with the opportunity to safely see the beauty of the Sun from close up and explore the unique features on its surface. Helios is brought to Sarawak to strengthen the public's understanding of science, art and the important role of the Sun in life. The exhibition is also hoped to inspire interest in astronomy, increase environmental awareness and appreciate the relationship between science and creativity.
Borneo Cultures Museum is the first host of this exhibition in the Asian region and Helios is the latest monumental work by artist from the United Kingdom, Luke Jerram. This temporary exhibition will be held at the Borneo Cultures Museum until 17 July 2026.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Member of the National Assembly YB Dato Ahmad Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary of the relevant ministry Datu Sherrina Husaini and other dignitaries. The presence of students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), SMK Green Road, SMK Petra Jaya, SMK Asajaya and SMJK Kuching High, also enlivened this event.
