Heritage Awareness Programme at the Kampung Semeba Community Hall, Batu Kawa, Kuching.
Tuesday, 17 June 2025 – The Sarawak Museum Department has organised a Heritage Awareness Programme at the Kampung Semeba Community Hall, Batu Kawa, Kuching. This programme was organised to increase awareness and understanding among the local community on the importance of preserving and conserving the state’s historical heritage.
Among the main objectives of this programme is to increase community awareness of the Sarawak Heritage Ordinance, 2019, expand knowledge on the importance of preserving and conserving historical buildings, monuments and sites, and provide an understanding of the procedures for gazetting heritage sites under the ordinance.
This programme was led by Mr. Iswandi bin Haji Junaidi, Head of Heritage Management Division, Sarawak Museum Department. Also present were Dr. Dana Ak Badang from the Geopark Unit, Sarawak Forestry Department as well as representatives from the Kuching Resident’s Office, Sarawak Forestry Department, Minerals and Geoscience Department, Padawan Municipal Council and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
This programme received a very encouraging response with the attendance of 180 people from the local community.
Please be informed that all museums and forts under the administration of the Sarawak Museums Department will be closed on 17 February 2026 (Tuesday) in conjunction with the Chinese New Year Celebration and will reopen to the public on 18 February 2026 (Wednesday). Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
