Collection handover ceremony and signing of the letter of handover of 27 miniature cannons
Friday, 8 November 2024: The handover ceremony of the collection and signing of the letter of handover of 27 miniature cannons was witnessed by YB Dato' Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts. It took place in one of the hotels in Amsterdam, Netherlands from Mr. Peter Hamer to Mrs. Nancy Hj Jolhi, Director of the Sarawak Museum Department.
Mr Peter, a former engineer who had worked in Miri, Sarawak from 1976 to 1984, has donated 27 miniature cannons that are more than 100 years old to the Sarawak Museum Department. The return of artifacts to the Sarawak Museum Department proves the trust of the donor or the public to the Sarawak Museum Department which plays a role in preserving Sarawak's heritage.
Also present at the ceremony were Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), Datu Sherrina binti Hussaini, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Datu Dr. Rashidah binti Haji Bolhassan.
