Abstract:
Terdapat banyak kajian yang telah dilakukan di luar negara mengenai penglibatan ibu bapa dalam pendidikan anak-anak (Baker & Soden, 1997; Catsambis, 1998; Downey, 2002; Fȧn & Chen, 1999; Ho Sui-Chu & Willms, 1996; Hoover-Dempsey & Sandler, 1997; Izzo, Weissberg, Kasprow, & Fendrich, 1999; Keith & Keith, 1993; Mapp, 2002; Miedel & Reynolds, 1999; Pena, 2000). Kajian-kajian tersebut memperlihatkan ibu bapa memainkan peranan yang penting dalam pendidikan anak-anak mereka. Menurut Hendersen dan Mapp (2002) banyak kajian mendapati pelajar-pelajar yang ibu bapanya terlibat dengan pendidikan mereka akan mencapai keputusan yang cemerlang, lulus peperiksaan, kerap ke sekolah, mempunyai kemahiran sosial dan tingkah laku yang baik, dapat menyesuaikan diri dengan baik di sekolah dan berjaya menamatkan persekolahan. Manakala Wissbrun dan Eckart (1992) pula menyatakan ibu bapa mempunyai tanggungjawab utama dalam pendidikan anak-anak mereka. Banyak perkara yang dipelajari oleh anak-anak seperti kemahiran komunikasi, nilai, tradisi dan kebijaksanaan melalui pengalaman dan contoh yang diberikan oleh ibu bapa. Ibu bapa merupakan penjaga, pendidik dan individu pertama yang bergaul dengan anak-anak (Berger, 2000). Ibu bapa juga merupakan pendorong berterusan dalam pendidikan anak-anak bermula dari mereka lahir hinggalah dewasa.
