Night At The Museum 2024 - 30 Sep 2024


Saturday, 21 September 2024: The Sarawak Museum Department has held the Night At The Museum 2024 Program at the Borneo Cultures Museum. The program was graced by the presence of His Excellency the President of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Sri Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

The program was attended by the Premier of Sarawak, the Honorable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, the Deputy Premier, the Honorable Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian with his wife, as well as Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife. Consulates General from foreign countries, Heads of Departments, Agencies, Institutes of Higher Education and NGOs also attended to enliven this event.

Many thanks to all who have supported and made this program a success. Hopefully it can increase the value of love and interest in the heritage, history and culture of Sarawak.

        Thursday, 5 September 2024 - Borneo Cultures Museum has received a courtesy visit from H.E. Orla Tunney, Ambassador of Ireland to Malaysia. He was accompanied by Puan Jayanthi Thevarajah, Head of Education Services - ASEAN and was welcomed by Officers from the Sarawak Museum Department. During the visit, he was given a guided tour by the Curator of the Sarawak Museum Department. Thank you for visiting the Borneo Cultures Museum.
Sarawak Museum Department Manuscript Collection Publication Workshop was held at the Borneo Cultures Museum in collaboration with UiTM Sarawak Branch. - 09 Sep 2024

           4-5 September 2024: Sarawak Museum Department Manuscript Collection Publication Workshop was held at the Borneo Cultures Museum in collaboration with UiTM Sarawak Branch. Thank you to Prof. Associate Dr. Saimi Bin Bujang, Prof. Associate Dr. Abdul Razak Bin Abdul Kadir, as well as Puan Noranizah Yusuf who helped make this workshop a success. Also present were representatives from the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the Charitable Trust Board of the Sarawak Malay Culture Foundation (AKYBMS) and officials from the Sarawak Museum Department.

         Tuesday, 20 August 2024 - Chairman of the Terengganu State Digital Economy, New Income, Trade, Industry and Green Technology Committee, Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Nurkhuzaini bin Ab Rahman paid a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum. During the visit, he who was present with officials was given a guided tour by the Curator of the Sarawak Museum Department.

        Tuesday, 20 August 2024 - Thank you for the visit of the Honorable Tuan Sulaiman Bin Sulong, Deputy Chairman of the Terengganu State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee to the Borneo Cultures Museum. During the visit, they were given a guided tour led by the Curator, Miss Yasmin Khalid Nicholls.

               Monday, 19 August 2024 - Thank you for the visit of the Honorable Dato' Mohamad Zahir bin Abdul Khalid, Speaker of the Perak State Assembly to the Borneo Cultures Museum. He was accompanied by the Honorable Mrs. Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Assembly. During the visit, they were given a guided tour by the Liaison Officer of the Sarawak Museum Department.
Museum Educational Program 2024 with Kolej Komuniti Kuching dan Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) - 15 Aug 2024

Saturday, 10 August 2024 - The Sarawak Museum Department held the Museum Educational Program 2024 at the Borneo Cultures Museum. For this session, two public higher education institutions (IPTAs) have been invited to participate in the program, namely Kuching Community College and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

The program begins with a briefing session on the artefacts found in each gallery, followed by a visit to the GAIA (The Earth) temporary exhibition. Next, a group activity session was held, where students had the opportunity to improve team spirit, cooperation, integrity, and love for Sarawak's history and heritage. In addition, this activity also helps the students to get to know the archaeological materials in Sarawak more deeply.

Before dispersing, the students and accompanying lecturers each received souvenirs from the Sarawak Museum Department. Hopefully this program will benefit all students who attend. Thank you to Kuching Community College and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) for sending students to participate in this program.
 
 
Innovative & Creative Circle (ICC) Convention at the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Sarawak Performing Arts (MTCP) - 15 Aug 2024


Monday, 12 August 2024 - Around the Innovative & Creative Circle (ICC) Convention at the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Sarawak Performing Arts (MTCP) level which took place at the RAIA Hotel, Kuching.
The convention was officiated by Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, the Honorable Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak, Yang Berhormat Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Yang Berhormat Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datu Sherrina binti Hussaini, and Department Director Sarawak Museum, Mrs. Nancy Hj Jolhi.
Congratulations to the MUSES group from the Sarawak Museum Department who won the best performance category and were runners-up and took home the Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) trophy and RM2,000 in cash.

MUSES presented their invention, the Vanguard System, a system capable of controlling and assisting the safety of artifacts in the Museum. Hopefully the MUSES JMS group will continue to progress and excel in the future.
Sarawak Museum Department at the 10th World Congress of Herpetology - 13 Aug 2024

 
        Wednesday, 7 August 2024 - The Sarawak Museum Department has participated in the 10th World Congress of Herpetology by opening a booth that displays materials published by the Sarawak Museum Department. The book and journal publication booth was held on 5 August 2024 until 9 August 2024 at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK). Many visitors from home and abroad have been interested and bought books and journals published by the Sarawak Museum Department. Among the books and journals of interest are Marine Turtles of Sarawak at the Sarawak Turtle Islands: Running Out of Time and The Sarawak Museum Journal. Thank you to all visitors for their support of the Sarawak Museum Department's publications.
