Sarawak Museum Dept to set up ‘baruk’ featuring Borneo history at Penang’s International Museum Day Festival.

Kuching, May 8: The Sarawak Museum Department is sending a 35-Member contingent to take place in Penang from May 12 to 22.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said under the 28th edition of the festival, the delegation will participate in a sports tournament scheduled to take place at Padang Kota Lama and Batu Feringgi on May 13 and 14.

The nine sports are beach soccer, tug and war, beach netball, Museum’s Titan, Dragon Boat tug of war, rowing, table pool, sandcastle and relay race (100m, 200m and 4x100m).

“Additionally, Sarawak Museum Department will be involved in the exhibition scheduled from May 16 to 22 at Dewan Sri Penang.

“For this year’s edition, our Museum Department will hold and exhibition with the theme ‘Urang Sarawak: Come Learn With Us’ which brings the narrative of understanding the conservation concept and features collections of ethonology, zoology, Borneo manuscripts and archaeology-related photos.

“The will exhibit all these at a special booth which is designed to resemble a ‘baruk’ – the Bidayuh’s traditional house,” he said during a press conference held at Media Room of Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex here today.
He also mentioned that Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yow will officiate the festival on May 18.

This year’s celebration is themed ‘Museum, Education and Research’ which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 – Quality Education and No. 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
The International Museum Day celebration started in 1977, Through the resolution of of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and is celebrated on May 18 every year by 37,000 museum around the world – DayakDaily.
